What are the system requirements for my TVC Wireless Modem/Router?
•	Pentium-class processor or faster
•	16 Mb of memory
•	10 Mb of hard disk space available
•	Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Macintosh
•	CD-ROM available
•	A wired or wireless 802.11b or 802.11g compliant network adapter
* For wired connections, Ethernet cables (one is provided with the SBG900)
Motorola recommends plugging the SBG900 AC power adapter into a surge protector.


How do I access the configuration pages for my TVC Wireless Modem/Router?
Login to the configuration pages by following these steps:
1	On a computer on the LAN, open a web browser.
2	In the Address or Location field, type http://192.168.100.1 and press ENTER to display the Login window.
3	In the User ID field, type the User Name; the default is "admin" (this field is case sensitive).
4	In the Password field, type the Password; the default is "motorola" (this field is case sensitive).
5	Click OK to display the user configuration and status pages.
Functional Areas (Left side menu):
•	Cable Configure and monitor the cable system connection.
•	Gateway Configure and monitor the gateway preferences.
•	Wireless Configure and monitor the wireless interface.
•	Firewall Configure and monitor the firewall.
•	Printer (SBG1000 only) Configure the print server.
•	Admin Changing the Default Password.
•	Help Display information about the SBG1000/940.
•	Info Display information about the SBG1000/940 Setup Program.
•	Reboot Restart the SBG1000/940. It is the same as pressing the reset button on the Rear Panel for less than five seconds.
Router is a configuration option that may appear on your window but may not be supported.
For some settings, after you edit the field and click Apply, you are warned that you must Reboot for your change to take effect. Rebooting takes 10 to 15 seconds. After rebooting, you must log-in again.


How do I configure my computer be part of my network?
Configure Your Computers:
Each computer that will be part of your network needs to communicate with the router. To do this, you may need to configure each PC's network setting to automatically obtain an IP address. This section includes information on configuring computers with the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Windows XP
Determine the operating system for each computer you will include in your wireless network and follow the steps to configure the network settings for that PC. Configuring Windows 98SE and ME (TVC does not support these operating systems -- this is FYI)
1	Click Start.
2	Select Settings > Control Panel.
3	Double-click Network. The Network window is displayed:

4	On the Configuration tab, select the TCP/IP line the for the appropriate Ethernet adapter on your PC. There may be multiple adapters installed — choose only the one that is configured for your adapter. In the example above, a 3Com Ethernet adapter card is installed and is the appropriate choice.
5	Click Properties. The TCP/IP Properties window is displayed:

6	Click the IP Address tab.
7	Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
8	Click OK.
9	Click the Gateway tab and confirm that the Installed Gateway field is blank.
10	Click OK twice. Windows may ask for the Windows Installation disk. First check to see if the installation files are installed at c:\windows\options\cabs. Otherwise, load your Windows CD and follow the prompts.
11	Restart your computer to save your settings.
12	Proceed to the Configure Your Wireless Security Settings section to set up security.
Configuring Windows 2000
1	Click Start.
2	Select Settings.
3	Select Control Panel.
4	Double-click Network and Dial-Up Connections.
5	Double-click Local Area Connection.

6	Click Properties.
The Local Area Properties window is displayed:

7	Ensure the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected.
8	Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window is displayed:

9	Select Obtain an IP address automatically. Click OK twice to exit and save your settings.
10	Restart your computer to save your settings.
11	Proceed to the Configure Your Wireless Security Settings section to set up security.
Configuring Windows XP
This configuration assumes you have retained the default interface for Windows XP. If you are running the 'Classic' interface, please follow the instructions for Windows 2000.
1	Click Start.
2	Select Settings.
3	Select Control Panel.
4	Double-click Network and Dial-Up Connections.
5	Double-click Local Area Connection.

6	Click Properties.
The Local Area Properties window is displayed:

7	Ensure the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected.
8	Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window is displayed:

9	Select Obtain an IP address automatically. Click OK twice to exit and save your settings.
10	Proceed to the Configure Your Wireless Security Settings section to set up security.


How do I setup my TVC Wireless Modem/Router for wireless network access?
Computers using the wireless connection require an 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless adapter installed. The adapter type depends on whether the computer has a USB port, PCI slot, or credit-card-sized PCMCIA slot.
To provide an initial wireless connection to your network and the Internet:
1	Connect the SBG900 to the cable TV system as described in Section A.
2	On each wireless client computer, install the wireless adapter hardware and driver software according to the manufacturer's instructions.
3	On each wireless client computer, set up a wireless adapter profile to "connect" the client to the SBG900. The procedure depends on your wireless adapter and computer operating system. In your initial profile, use the SBG900 default wireless Network Name (ESSID) motorola (case-sensitive).
At this point your computers are connected but the wireless network is not secure. After your wireless LAN is operational, be sure to enable security.

How do I enable WEP and set the key on my
TVC Wireless Modem/Router?

On the SBG900/1000 Setup Program left frame, click Wireless.

Click the SECURITY tab to display the
Wireless > SECURITY — basic page

Set the following:

Authentication

Sets whether shared key authentication is enabled to provide data privacy on the wireless LAN:
•	Open System — Any wireless LAN client can transmit data to any other client without authentication. Open authentication provides no security for transmitted data. It is the default.
•	Shared Key — All data transmitted over the wireless LAN is encrypted. The SBG900 authenticates and transfers data to and from all clients having shared key authentication enabled and an identical WEP key.

Encryption

*Use a WEP key length that is compatible with your wireless client adapters. Choose one* of:**
•	Enable 64-Bit — Use only if you have wireless clients that do not support 128-bit encryption.
•	Enable 128-bit — The recommended setting for stronger encryption; supported by the Motorola PCC11b wireless card, USB11b wireless adapter, and most current wireless adapters.
•	Disable WEP — Recommended during network setup only.

Key 1 to Key 4

Sets the active WEP key. You can enter up to four 64-bit or 128-bit WEP keys containing the non-case-sensitive hexadecimal characters 0 to 9 and A to F. Only one key can be active:
•	For 64-bit encryption, set the 10-character long key under Enable 64-bit.
•	For 128-bit encryption, set the 26-character long key under Enable 128-bit.
For optimal security, we recommend changing the WEP keys frequently. Never provide the WEP key to anyone who is not authorized to use your wireless LAN.

If necessary, click Reset Wireless Defaults to reset the wireless defaults.

Click Save Changes to save your changes.

To enable WPA and set the key on the SBG900:

On the SBG900 Setup Program left panel, click Wireless.

Click the SECURITY tab to display the
Wireless > SECURITY — basic page:

In the Security Mode field, select WPA and click Apply.

Under WPA CONFIGURATION, choose one WPA Encryption type: Because performance may be slow with TKIP, we recommend choosing AES if your clients support AES
TKIP Temporal Key Integrity Protocol provides data encryption including a per-packet key mixing function, message integrity check (MIC), initialization vector (IV), and re-keying mechanism.
AES The Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm implements symmetric key cryptography as a block cipher using 128-bit keys. We recommend this setting if all of your wireless clients support AES. The Motorola client adapters shown in “Optional Accessories” support AES.

Choose the WPA Authentication type:
Remote (Radius)
If a Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) server is available, you can select this option and go to step 6. A RADIUS server is typically used in a large corporate location.
Local (WPA-PSK)
If you choose Pre-Shared Key (PSK) local authentication, if the passphrase on any client supporting WPA matches the PSK Passphrase set on the SBG900, the client can access the SBG900 WLAN. To set the PSK Passphrase, go to step 7. A local key is typically used in a home
or small office.

For Remote (Radius) authentication only, set:
Radius Port
The port used for remote authentication through a RADIUS server. It can be from 0 to 65535.
Radius Key
The key for remote authentication.
It can be from 0 to 255 ASCII characters.
Radius Server
Type: Currently IPv4 only.
Radius Server The RADIUS server IP address in dotted-decimal format (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

For Local (WPA-PSK) authentication only, set:
PSK Passphrase:
The PSK password containing from 8 to 63 ASCII characters. You must set the identical passphrase on each WLAN client (see “Configuring a Wireless Client for WPA”).

Click Save Changes.

Configuring a Wireless Client for WPA

If you enabled WPA and set a PSK Passphrase by Configuring WPA on the SBG900, you must configure the same passphrase (key) on each wireless client. The SBG900 cannot authenticate a client if:

•

WPA is enabled on the SBG900 but not on the client

•

The client passphrase does not match the SBG900 PSK Passphrase
